About Mumia

Mumia Abu-Jamal is one of today's most well known political prisoners. He is an internationally recognized author, activist, and journalist who was convicted in 1982 for the murder of Philadelphia police officer William Faulkner despite compelling evidence that he is innocent and was targeted for his political views and involvement.

Though imprisoned, Mumia continues to serve as an important voice on social issues and current politics. He has authored six books and hundreds of articles. He is the recipient of numerous awards and high standing recognitions including becoming the first person since Pablo Picasso to be named an honorary citizen of Paris, France.

In 2011, Mumia was released from death row after serving 30 years but still continues to serve life in prison. Amnesty International has profiled the case and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund is currently the legal co-counsel on the case.
